Anita Chari

As a somatic educator, artist, and scholar, I am devoted to supporting my clients in reconnecting the wisdom of the body with the wisdom of the mind. Whether it be in the realm of career, emotional well-being, relationships, or creative process, I bring the depth of my experience in facilitating Embodiment Process work, Continuum movement, somatic creative process work, and academic and scholarly practice to support clients in connecting with the inherent unfolding of health, no matter the circumstances.

In addition to my work as a somatic educator, I serve as Associate Professor of political theory at the University of Oregon, where I bring the insights of Embodiment Process work into conversation with practices of social justice and political education.

My personal evolution from modern dancer and actress to yoga educator and trainer to systemic and somatic trauma resolution facilitator has been a hero’s journey. Just like many people’s lives, mine used to feel forced and heart-breaking too much of the time. It was the Family Constellation and the Embodiment Process experiences that enabled me to take a quantum leap out of my “round room” and into authentic responsibility and empowerment. Together, these two therapeutic modalities transformed my relationship to life.

I certified as a Family Constellation facilitator by Mark Wolynn, Director of the Family Constellation Institute in 2009 and as an Embodiment Process practitioner by Angelica Singh in 2016. I am a graduate of the Landmark Curriculum for Living and a registered Yoga Alliance Master Yoga Teacher ERYT and ECYT-500 hour. I earned a Master’s Degree in Human Development in 1996, and am nationally recognized for my work with Yoga Ed., Barefoot Books, School Specialty, and Move with Me Yoga Adventures in bringing integrated movement/yoga and mindfulness education to schools.

After the death of my father, the breakup of my marriage and many health issues, I managed to get myself to an appointment with a facilitator. When she asked me why I was there, all I could say was “I can’t feel my life, I cannot feel anything”. She looked at me and said, “you’re disassociated.” At that time, I had no idea what that meant. This was a profound turning point into what has now become my life’s journey. I came to understand that my “disassociation” was actually a coping skill that I had been using to protect myself. I learned how childhood and inherited traumas were affecting my perceptions of myself and of the world around me.

Through the Biodynamic Craniosacral sessions and The Embodiment Process I began to connect with myself, my sensations and my feelings, and to complete and discharge the energies and patterns that I had been holding for so long. I became more present and experienced new levels of trust, health and freedom, so much so that I wanted to empower others to heal and transform their lives. It is now an honor to be able to offer my presence to others to support others in their journey towards health and empowerment.
